Internationally renowned guitarists, Slava and Leonard Grigoryan will enthrall you with an energetic performance and the breadth of their repertoire – embracing genres such as classical, jazz and contemporary music from around the world.
Between them, they have received 2 ARIA awards (Australian Recording Industry Association) and an incredible 20 ARIA Award nominations. As a duo they have recorded 7 albums.
Slava and Leonard are blessed with an uncanny ability to perform so seamlessly as a duo that they play and ‘breath’ as one. Growing up and performing together does not guarantee a symbiotic relationship, but what does create the perfect storm is the mutual respect and admiration the brothers have for each other. Perhaps this is the intangible quality that creates their ability to connect with listeners.
For this performance The Grigoryan Brothers will be performing works from their latest release, which sees a return to classical repertoire. The album will include songs by composers such as
Bach, Elgar, Dvorak, Rachmaninoff, Faure, De Falla and Ponce all masterfully arranged for them by their father Edward. This familial collaboration is not new, with Grigoryan senior arranging the music of Tchaikovsky’s suite for piano ‘The Seasons’, for his sons’ critically acclaimed 2012 release.
The program will also include other works highlighting Slava and Leonard’s diverse skills: their deep appreciation of a broad spectrum of musical styles has resulted in many collaborations involving music, both written and improvised.
