HOPE by Janet Heisner
Date & Time
Sunday 16th Jun 2019
10:00 am - 4:00 pm
This beautifully sensitive solo exhibition by Hervey Bay artist Janet Heisner features skillfully made radiation therapy masks. These were carefully kept from her late husband Kerry’s cancer treatment, as well as collected by the Genesis Radiation Centre over a period of 5 years.
Including digital manipulations of these masks, and installations of the actual objects, the artist aims to interpret these as symbols of hope for the future.
“They are beautiful, but also a cage which holds the person tightly in place while allowing the life-saving light to penetrate to the exact area, to the exact depth needed, to heal. These masks became a symbol of ‘Hope’ for us” Janet explains.
Each mask in the exhibition represents a person who has been through Radiation Therapy and who also holds that ‘Hope’ for the future.
