Try your luck on the wheel for Charity

For over 65 years, The Hervey Bay Local Ambulance Committee’s annual Ambulance Goods Wheel has been held on the Scarness foreshore over the Christmas holidays.  It has become a tradition for many local families and holidaymakers, to bring the whole family, their folding chairs and picnic rugs down to ‘The Stage’ at Scarness for a night out and to try their luck on the Ambulance Wheel.

This year, the Ambulance Goods Wheel will start spinning on Saturday 14th December and will be held nightly from 7pm (except Christmas Day) till Saturday 4th January 2020.

Each night 100 – 200 tickets are sold before the wheel is spun.  Tickets are just 50 cents each.  All winning ticket holders get to choose their own prize from the huge range on display.  Prizes include toys, kitchen and homewares, small electrical items, camping, gardening, fishing and auto items, manchester, skateboards, scooters and pool toys and so much more.  There are approximately 1000 prizes in total, all of which are sourced and purchased locally throughout the year by the Hervey Bay LAC.

All losing tickets, with your name and phone number on the back, go in the barrel for a chance to win the Major Prize of a Hooded Gas BBQ, which will be drawn on the last night.

On Christmas Eve, Santa will take time out from his busy schedule to come to the wheel to hand out sweet treats to the children.

The Ambulance Goods Wheel could not run without support from local Service Clubs and groups, who volunteer their time to sell tickets over the three weeks the Wheel is held.  These include the Rotary Clubs of Hervey Bay City & Hervey Bay Sunrise, Fraser Lions, View Club, Hervey Bay Lions, Zonta, Hervey Bay Councillors & Bendigo Bank.

Support from the Fraser Coast community for the Ambulance Goods Wheel has always been great, with several businesses donating prizes for second chance draws and another helping to move the equipment necessary to run the wheel.

Proceeds from the Goods Wheel supports Queensland Ambulance through the Local Ambulance Committee.

The Hervey Bay Ambulance Goods Wheel is the only one still running in Queensland!  So, come on down, bring your folding chairs, 50 cent pieces and join in the fun.  If luck is on your side, you may just take home a prize or two, or the BBQ!
