How exciting and interesting is history!! There will be many a story told when we all get together to celebrate 50 years.
Sunbury Sports Association, now known as Sunbury Football Club, was formed in 1972 after discussions with Ray Barry, a well-known Soccer identity involved in setting up many local Football Clubs.
Sunbury School teachers Rob Paterson and Ken Beikoff recognised the need for a sports association to support the many children in the area to participate in various sports. The very first committee President was Rob Paterson.
The Dale Family and Judy Foster were prominent members leading the growth of Sunbury into the 80’s and 90’s, whilst the Linwood and Sawtell Families continue into their 28th year of volunteering.
School Sports included – Rugby League, Cricket, Soccer, Basketball, Softball and Netball. Whilst most of these sports continue today, it is under local associations or school-based teams. Soccer or Football as it is known today still thrives under the Sunbury Blues Football Club.
We would like to thank our Life Members and volunteers, past and present, for their dedication, passion and commitment. We are also very much indebted to the amazing teachers of Sunbury School for the association/club’s humble beginnings. Fifty years later, we are still going strong with some amazing members who rolled up their sleeves and spent many hours dedicated to keeping the dream alive.
Many other wonderful people have contributed by helping out in various ways, whether it be on the committee, coaching or managing. Our President Andrew Howlett will be leading us into our fiftieth year and is excited about the future of this great club. This celebration is in recognition of you all.
If you are a player, have volunteered, or are a parent, or supporter of our club, we invite you to come along for a night of nostalgia and reminisce with teammates and friends.
