Where it all began

In 2015 a group of mates rallied around a family experiencing the unthinkable. One of these mates Mick Irwin says, “Our friends, the Christensen’s had just received a devastating medical diagnosis for their 5-year-old boy, and we wanted to plan to do something that would help them financially while they took the time to be with their son”. 

What is it all about?

The Dunga Derby is the celebratory event after the amazing fundraising efforts of the teams throughout the year. We organise a car rally where the only thing the participants know is “They will have a blast.” Our theme is coast to country. We love driving along dirt roads, through water crossings and putting the old cars to the test. We try and leave each small town a little better off than when we arrived, by supporting local businesses and raising funds for recipients on route. All funds raised go directly to the charity Rally for a Cause.

In 10 Years, we have grown.

10 Years of being a Dungarian is an impressive achievement. We have a handful of individuals who have experienced all the Dunga Derby rallies and are gearing up for the big 10^th year. Over those years, teams have fundraised an outstanding amount for their local community. In the first year, $92,000 was raised, and in 2023 the teams were able to hit just over $560,000. These funds go to recipients in the local community experiencing life-limiting medical conditions. So far, we have supported over 300 families/and or individuals and grown to 55 teams, 260 participants and an entourage of officials. This year is the first year our rally will be over 5 days. We plan on giving the teams the best adventure travelling from the coast to the country for some good old-country hospitality. They will experience driving challenges, themed dress-up days, loads of scenic dirt tracks with great radio banter along the way and of course new friends.

The year of Teal

This year we honour the memory of Cooper Christensen, our first Rally for a Cause recipient. Car #06 “Coopers Journey” is featured as our 10th-year logo and our 2024 theme colour is teal to match the colour of their car.
