Prepare to be dazzled by a spectacular evening of enchantment and grand illusion as Anthony Street, one of Australia’s foremost illusionists, takes centre stage. Prepare to witness levitations, mind-bending vanishes, astonishing mentalism, and daring escapes as Anthony stretches the limits of reality and twists your perceptions. This captivating spectacle, aptly titled “Spellbound,” is set to grace the stage of the Brolga this month.

For many of us, the fascination with magic traces back to our childhoods—the moments when we were left spellbound, filled with wonder and awe. Anthony Street was no exception. Growing up in Healesville, Victoria, Anthony’s journey into the world of magic began at the age of ten at a local carnival that he attended with his grandad, a country music singer who was there to perform.

Anthony wandered off to have a look around and came across a magician doing a magic show. The magician was doing a trick with rope and Anthony was instantly mesmerised. When the magic show finished, he went up to the magician and asked lots of questions and the magician taught him a trick. He received his first magic set that Christmas which ignited his passion for magic even more, leading him to immerse himself in the art form through videos, tutorials, and countless performances for friends and family.

Reflecting on his early encounters with magic, Anthony reminisces about the carnival experience and the thrill of performing his first trick—a moment he incorporates into his show today.

Growing up, Anthony admired magician and illusionist David Copperfield but never got to see him perform when he was in his prime. About six years ago he was able to attend a show in Las Vegas and bumped into David in the lobby where they had a photo together.

Anthony is fueled by a constant quest for innovation and creativity. Drawing inspiration from diverse sources such as music, art, and nature, he continuously seeks to push the boundaries of illusion and captivate audiences with his mesmerising performances.

Behind the curtain of every illusion lies meticulous planning, precise execution, and a touch of magic. Anthony emphasises the intricate craftsmanship and coordination involved in bringing illusions to life on stage, from flawless sleight of hand to the seamless integration of props, lighting, and music. Despite the challenges and uncertainties inherent in live performances, Anthony’s dedication to his craft ensures that each illusion evolves and improves with every show.

If the name Anthony Street seems familiar it’s because he is also an acclaimed Irish Dancer and has danced around the world. He is also the former lead dancer of Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance.

In April 2012, a dream was realised when Anthony created his very own production, that combines Irish dancing and illusion called ‘Celtic Illusion’.

Since the age of nineteen, Anthony has been touring, whether captivating audiences with his magic or enchanting them with his dancing. Despite the demanding nature of touring, it’s in moments after each performance, as the lights dim and he greets his audience in the foyer, that Anthony can see the impact his shows have on those in attendance. It’s in these moments that he realizes there’s no other profession that even comes close to bringing him such fulfillment.
