PingPongParkinson is a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of people with a Parkinsons Diagnosis through ping pong (table tennis). Founded on 1 March 2017 by Croatian American musician and peace activist Nenad Bach after his own diagnosis, PingPongParkinson has evolved from a single club into a global movement spanning over 200 chapters and five World Championships. With the establishment of PPP Hervey Bay on September 2, 2024, Australia became the 25th country to offer PingPongParkinson.
The science behind playing ping pong for Parkinson’s is based on neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to create or remodel neural connections through physical exercise. Research has shown that ping pong is uniquely beneficial due to its focus on rapid hand-eye coordination, rhythmic movements, balance, and deep concentration.
We believe that the unique beauty of PingPongParkinson lies in the community, or sense of family, that grows among people with PD connected by their commitment to helping themselves and each other conquer the fear of Parkinson’s and experience a better quality of life.
PingPongParkinson Hervey Bay not only provides a place where people can come together to play ping pong and feel good but also a space where relationships and friendships can flourish. We extend an invitation to anyone with PD to join our community at Hervey Bay Social and Activities Club, 61 Hunter Street Pialba, each Monday at 1:30pm. As we expand, we’re also looking for volunteers to join us.
If you’re interested in learning more about what we do or are experiencing it for yourself, please contact herveybay@pingpongparkinson.org or call 0423 315 939. You can also find us on the web at www.pingpongparkinson.org.
We hope to see you at the tables!
Christmas/New Year closure: no session on 30 December 2024.
