Take a trip to Woodgate

Take a trip to Woodgate

Last month, my husband and I were able to escape for a night, so we decided to pack the car and head to Woodgate for a night of camping. We checked in to NRMA Woodgate Beach Holiday Park and were greeted with smiles and activity ideas from the moment we walked in the door.

For those who don’t know, Woodgate is a beachside town just over an hour away from Hervey Bay and Maryborough and is located in the Wide Bay-Burnett region.

Woodgate has become a popular holiday destination for many as people have sought to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy the relaxed beach lifestyle Woodgate offers. Today, Woodgate is a thriving coastal community known for its beautiful beaches, tranquil waters, and relaxed way of life.

NRMA Woodgate Beach Holiday Park

The NRMA Woodgate Beach Holiday Park is nestled in between the National Park bushland and the ocean and has many trees providing shade from the heat and humidity. BBQ areas are situated throughout the property, and there is even a camp kitchen to make cooking easier for everyone.

Best of all, the holiday park is dog friendly, although dogs must be on a lead in the park to keep everyone safe. Seeing so many four-legged friends was great, I wouldn’t hesitate to take our dog next time.

We slept in a swag, but if you like a bit more comfort, there are plenty of other options, from a deluxe beach house or a cabin right through to a safari tent. There is even an on-site café.

Our campsite

Beach access to Woodgate Beach is right across the road, with 16 km of soft, sandy beach to explore. We also took our pushbikes and went for a ride along the Esplanade, which was a great way to see the area and all it offers.

You can’t go to Woodgate without visiting Theodolite Creek. This is a great place to swim, paddleboard or kayak. Better still, take a picnic and spend the day. The creek is very popular, and it can get quite busy at times, so keep that in mind.

Theodolite Creek – Woodgate

Woodgate is a picturesque place, perfect for a range of outdoor recreational activities, with some natural attractions that you will want to see when you visit.

You can

  • Head to the beach to swim, sunbathe or play.
  • Do a spot of fishing.
  • Take a dip at Theodolite Creek
  • Launch the boat.
  • Get the binoculars out and watch the birds.
  • Picnic at Walkers Point on the Burrum River.
  • Explore the Burrum Coast National Park.
  • Enjoy camping and caravanning.

The Woodgate Beach Hotel is just down the road, too, and overlooks the water. The hotel has experienced a recent refurbishment with the addition of a new restaurant upstairs called ‘The Deck’. We enjoyed a delicious meal, had a few liquid refreshments, and played some games on the lawn.

There is also a motel and pet-friendly caravan park on site. How good can it get?

So, for your next mini vacation, head to Woodgate.
