Fraser Coast families looking for a free fun activity this school holidays can now download the ‘Agents of Discovery’ app and complete a mission at the Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens.

Mayor George Seymour said Agents of Discovery was a place-based app that used smartphone technology and augmented reality to encourage children to get active and learn about the world around them.

“The Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens is one of the most beautiful outdoor spaces on the Fraser Coast, boasting a wide variety of established plants, walking tracks, an Australian bush tucker garden, a Chinese garden, a labyrinth, the Orchid House and a natural playground,” he said.

“We are excited that a Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens mission is now part of the Agents of Discovery app, creating an innovative and immersive outdoor adventure experience. It’s like Pokemon Go for parks and gardens.

“Those taking the adventure mission can join Agent Kangaroo to learn about the natural environment within the botanic gardens and solve challenges along the way.

“Through completing the interactive challenges, children and families become Nature Agents that connect with the environment and uncover the wonders of our natural world.

“This fun and engaging game can be played anytime, offering a fantastic opportunity for families to spend quality time outdoors and stay active and healthy.

“It’s all about encouraging kids to get outdoors and explore nature.”

To play the game, first download the free app to your iPad, tablet or mobile device using Google Play or the App store. Then visit the Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens and choose the Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens mission.
