The 25-metre pool at the Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre will reopen on Monday, 14 October, with a celebration featuring free entry and a free sausage sizzle.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre’s 25-metre pool area had undergone significant upgrades since March including a new enclosure, enhanced lighting and new flooring.

“We want to thank the community for their patience while these upgrades have been carried out, and we’re excited to celebrate the reopening with a pool party on Monday 14 October from 4pm to 6pm,” he said.

“During that time, entry to the aquatic centre will be free and visitors can enjoy a free sausage sizzle.

“There will also be an opportunity to meet local swim clubs and discover how you and your family can get involved in their activities.”

Stage 1A of the Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre upgrade includes:

• A new enclosure and flooring for the 25-metre pool;
• Upgraded lighting;
• A new first aid/lifeguard station;
• New toilets and changerooms;
• Increased storage space and an upgraded plant room; and
• A new backwash and chlorine spill tanks in the service yard.

The enclosure, flooring and lighting upgrades are completed with all stage 1A works expected to finish by November.

“These upgrades are all about improving the safety, reliability, and overall experience at the aquatic centre, ensuring it meets modern standards,” Cr Seymour said.

“We thank the Queensland Government for providing $3.5 million towards the $4.1 million project

through the Local Government Grants and Subsidies program.”

Cr Seymour said an update on the next stage of works at the Hervey Bay Aquatic Centre, expected to begin in early 2025, will be provided at the pool party.

“The next stage will introduce exciting features like an interactive splashpad in the toddler pool, new shade structures and floodlights for the 50-metre pool,” he said.

“We’ll also be widening the concourse, upgrading the pipework and installing a new activity tower and wet play equipment.

“The Aquatic Centre team will work to minimise the impact on the public during these upgrades and ensure the 50-metre pool remains open as much as possible.

“The lagoon pool will remain closed until the completion of the stage 1B upgrades, and we thank the community for their continued patience during this process.

“Council is committed to effectively managing and maintaining our assets and planning for the future, and that’s what this project is all about.”
