Maryborough is about a 30-minute drive from Hervey Bay. The town is rich in history, and a must-see.
A great place to visit is heritage-listed Queens Park that was gazetted as a Botanical Gardens Reserve in 1873.
A railway line runs through part of the park that is still operational today. A full-size replica of the Mary Ann steam train runs the route quite regularly. When the train is running the public can also go for a ride for a small fee. MELSA also run miniature train rides on special occasions and events too.
As you walk further into the park, you will be captivated by the view of the spectacular Mary River in all of its splendour. Several large guns stand at guard to remind us of the history.
Some of the features of the park are the many plants and trees, a lily pond, a rotunda that was built in 1890 and spectacular views of the Mary River. Best of all it is situated within an easy stroll of the City Hall and many shops and points of interest including the historic Wharf St.
While at Queens Park also check out the Gallipoli to Armistice Military Trail and the Ducan Chapman Statue.
